Australia Vs Sri Lanka – ICC T20 World Cup
Sri Lanka scripted a dramatic six wicket victory, over Australia to send the ODI world champions out of the tournament, for the first time in the history of world cups. Kumar Sangakkara, who showed, that he had rare cortex in regard with his captaincy skills also made an unbeaten half – century, to guide his team home.
Australia, which lost their previous match badly, needed a huge win, if they have any chances to make, to super eight but Sri Lanka had other ideas, as they unsettled them, with a right talent, from the ball one.
Angelo Matthews opened the bowling along, with Sanath Jayasuriya the move, which worked wonders, as David Warner was sent, to the pavilion, with a third ball duck and Ricky Pointing joined with Shane Watson, to provide some impetus, to their team.
But Ajantha Mendis raw talent and unknown quality did them in, as both Shane Watson and Ricky Pointing, who looked in ominous touch, were derided, by brilliance of Mendis and he bowled brilliantly, to further remove Micheal Hussey, to give a formidable advantage, to his team.
Australia were never looked settled ,in the middle against their talented, but novice Sri Lanka bowers, whom they would have been facing, for the first time and it took some late order cameos from David Hussey and Mitchell Johnson to take them to a competitive score of one seventy runs.
Mitchell Johnson took Muralitharan’s final over, for twenty runs with two huge sixes, but the end total was never enough given the true nature, of the placid track.
Australia started their bowling with a strong reprisal, by removing Jayasuriya for single digit and pushing Sri Lanka to the brink. But Kumar Sangakkara aong with Tilakaratne Dilshan, who are fresh from their IPL’s experience made sure that they deliver a knock – out punch to Australia by their eighty one run stand, where they spared no bowlers. Dilshan was aggressive of the two , but he was done in by Micheal Clarke delivery, when the score is in eighty one ,to give Australia a ray of hope.
Sri Lanka did look in a spot of bother, when they lost two wickets in quick succession of Mahela JAyawardene and C Silva, but Kumar Sanagakkara pacifying presence along with Jehan Mubarak composed cameo guided them home with a over, to spare to add agony, to Australia’s word cup stint.
