Chennai Super Kings

The name “Super Kings” comes from the Tamil culture as it honours the Golden Era of ancient times where Pallavas, Cholas and Cheras were ruling Tamil Nadu. The team logo, was adopted as a symbol of Pallava dynasty which ruled Southern India.Pandyas were ruling the areas that include present day Chennai. India Cement group is the promoters of Chennai Super kings and they associate super kings with their brand of Coromandel Cements.

In IPL 2008 season, the Super Kings had a solid start. They won their first 4 matches. But when Matthew Hayden, Michael Hussey and Jacob Oram left the team for international duty, their team structure got affected.. The team’s performance reflected this, as they proceeded to lose their next 3 matches. But the batting department eventually got recovered after getting contributions from Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Albie Morkel. The patch in the team’s lower order department left by Oram’s departure was filled by the arrival of Makhaya Ntini and Morkel. They both were playing the domestic tournament in South Africa during the start of the IPL 2008. With the emergence of Manpreet Gony the bowling got stronger than ever. Chennai super kings played their final league match against the Deccan Chargers. The win in that match helped them to reach the semifinal in good fashion.
Then Chennai Super kings defeated the dynamic Kings XI Punjab in the semifinal by 9 wickets. They lost the final of IPL 2008 to Rajasthan Royals in a thrilling match, by three wickets off the last ball.

With the inclusion of Andrew Flintoff, one of the costliest players in 2009 auction, Chennai super kings is all set to go for the championship this time.It adds to the all round capabilities of the team.

In Other Picks Thilan Thushara of Srilanka’s name is mentionable. As a handy bowling all-rounder, Chennai Super Kings picked him to extend its base in international catchment. But still he can be considered as just a good back-up to cover contingencies. If a player like Thilan Thushara is sitting in the bench we can simply assume the strength of the first eleven of Chennai Super Kings.

One of the biggest surprise from Chennai Super Kings auction was the fact that they did not bid for Bangladesh All rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Chennai Superkings was on a search for a spinner who can also bat. Considering the situation Shakib Al Hassan was the best choice they could have opted for.

But with all the confidence from the previous season, and under the most effective captain of the world cricket, especially in the shorter version of the game Chennai Super kings is one of the best bets for anyone who watch the cricket seriously, and with the likes of Raina, Badrinath, Morkel with the team IPL 2009 can bring big fortunes to the Chennai team.
