Rajasthan Vs Kolkata Knight Riders match of the IPL 2011 season will be hosted at Kolkata on May 22.  In IPL season 2008, both of the KKR Vs RR matches were won by Rajasthan Royals. In 2009 season, the RR Vs KKR match held at Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Rajasthan Royals defeated Kolkata Knight Riders. In the second match held at Durban Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Rajasthan Royals.

In 2009 KKR could not make it to the semi-finals since they lost 10 out of 14 matches. In 2008 edition also, KKR could not reach the semi-finals though they were favorites. KKR reached up to semifinals of IPL 2010 but, in semifinals they lost to CSK.

The Indian players in the KKR team for IPL 2011 are Gautam Gambhir, Manoj Tiwary, Yusuf Pathan, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Rajat Bhatia, Shreevats Goswami, Maninder Bisla, Laksmipathy Balaji, Jaydev Unadkat, Iqbal Abdulla, Pradeep Sangwan, Mohammad Shamai Ahmad and Sarabjit Ladda.

The international players in the team are Eoin Morgan, Shakib AL Hasan, Jacques Kallis, Ryan ten Doeschate, Brad Haddin, Brett Lee and James Pattinson.

Rajasthan Royals are the winners of IPL season 2008. But, in seasons 2009 and 2010, they could not reach the semi-finals. In 2010, the BCCI terminated the franchise of Rajasthan Royals against violation of agreements. RR challenged the termination at High Court of Mumbai. BCCI lost in the case and consequently Rajasthan Royals will be participating in season 2011 IPL.

Due to the fine imposed by BCCI, Rajasthan Royals had only a less budget for the auction and as a result in IPL 2011 it will be a weak team.

They could retain both the Australian players Shane Warne and Shane Watson. Shane Warne will be the coach as well as captain. The other players in the team are Ross Taylor, Paul Collingwood, Johan Botha, Shahun Tait, Rahul Dravid, Deepak Chahar, Aakash Chopra, Aaditya Dole, Ashok Menaria, Pakaj Singh, Ajinkya Rahane, Abhishek Raut, Siddharth Trivedi and Dishant Yagnik.

Sony TV has bought the television broadcast rights from BCCI and in India, they have re-sold the rights to Global Rights, who will arrange the telecast of IPL 2011.
