Delhi Daredevils formidable batting order fired big time, that they made little work of a formidable total of one hundred and sixty five runs made by Mumbai Indians. Going to the match Delhi couldn’t have asked anything better, than a storm from their captain’s willow and Shewag obliged to their team hopes by scoring a match winning fifty.
Mumbai Indians did not have a great start, to their innings losing three quick wickets at the start, but staged a recovery in form of Sachin Tendulkar and AM Rahane, who build a solid partnership, to salvage their team from a collapse.
Tendulkar was in a penalising mood against Delhi slow ball bolwers in his stay, even though he first appeared subdued against their opening bowlers. He looked set, to storm, at the end over, but got out to Rajat Bhatia.
AM Rahane, who asserted, that he is no less talent compared, to master breed, played his shots and even continued the good work after the departure of his captain. Abisekh Nayar, who is renowned for his big hitting in the death, got out cheaply to Avishkar Salvi, but Rahane was in no mood to relent.
Dirk Nannes was exceptional in his four over spell, picking wickets and giving mere twenty seven runs so was Pradeep sangwan, who replaced Asish Nehra also bolwed tightly picking two wickets. In the meantime Rahane scripted a fine half – century, to take his side to a comfortable one hundred and sixty five ruins.
Mumbai Indian new ball bolwers Dhawal Kulkarni and Lasith Malinga were just like tender rains in a harvest season, gifting loose balls, which was cashed in by opners David Warner and Gautham Gambhir.
Warner lost his bat, as well as wicket trying, to clout the Dhawal Kulkarni delivery out, of the park, but it enabled, for viewing of much crooned partnership of Gautham gambhir and Virender Shewag, who did not disappoint, by asserting their supremacy, in crafting the bowlers.
Gautham Gambhir succumbed to Lasith Malinga in his return for his second spell, three runs short of making a fine half - century, but Virender Shewag carried the baton along with Tilakaratne Dilshan , who were trying to finish the match quickly, but both fell to luring spin bolwing of Harbhajan singh.
Off - spinner also removed Rajat Bhatia and Ab De Villers, to test some nerves of Delhi batsmen, but Amit Mishra and Dinesh kaarthick ensured that there is no further twist in the tale and scored their winning runs within seventeenth over and carry their momentum into semi – finals.
