Bangalore Royal Challengers Beats Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders were made to bite the dust once again, in their yesterdays match against Bangalore Royal Challengers. Even though two teams were reeling in bottom of table, it promised to be a humdinger of match, as both teams badly wanted a win, to stay alive in series and match went to the wire exactly.
Both team made four changes in their side, where Bangalore Royal challengers made a surprise decision, of dropping Ross Taylor and Robin Uthappa for Roelof Merwe and Shreevats Goswami.
Kevin Pietrsen who was appearing, for his last match for Challengers in this season of IPL owing, to national duty, came up with few tactical moves, which certainly paid rich dividends. One such instance was, he opened the bowling, with Roelof Merwe, to counteract hard hitting pair of Brendon Mc Cullum and Chris Gayle. Kevin claimed the wicket of Brendon Mc Cullum in his first ball and Royal Challengers could have not asked for a better start.
Chris Gayle appeared subdued for majority of his innings and spinners were hard for him to get away, in what appeared to be a slow track. Certainly four spinner theory in form of Kevin, Van Der Merwe, Appanna and Anil Kumble was too hot for Kolkata batsmen.
.Anil Kumble was as miser as ever, where he claimed price wicket of Brad Hodge and gave away mere nineteen runs, in spell of four overs. New foreign induction Van Vyk was top scorer for Kolkata Knight Riders, who gave them some total to bowl at, even though he was subdued for his majority part of innings due to prudent bowling and they managed 139 at the end.
In reply Bangalore Royal Challengers openers for first time gave a solid start, Jacques Kallis and Shreevats Goswami crafted a steady half century partnership and later opener was belligerent in the partnership, where he scored run a ball 30 odd runs and kept Royal Challengers in hunt.
In contrast to opposition spinners, Knight Riders did not make much of a telling impact. But when what appeared to be a easy total to chase on, appeared elusive with Bangalore Royal Challengers lost Kevin and Virat Kohli.coupled with ever increasing run rate
Mark Boucher, with all his titanic experience took the challengers home with some good hitting at the end and scoring required nine runs of last over of Cris Gayle, with a ball to spare. He certainly gave some thing for departing Kevin Pietrsen to relish on and a ray of hope for their team.
